Die beiden Unbekannten kommen ins Gespräch und Emmi lädt Ali zu einem Kaffee zu sich nach Hause ein. Verdutzt nimmt der Marokaner Emmis Angebot entgegen bei ihm zu übernachten. Von da an geht alles Schlag auf Schlag: Das ungleiche Paar erlebt eine zärtliche Liebesgeschichte bis Emmi ihre Gefühle für Ali mit einer Heirat bekräftigt. Doch ihre Umgebung reagiert die Verbindung nur mit Hass und Neid bis zum Abbruch von Emmis familiären Beziehungen, was den Zusammenhalt der Beiden in der Not nur noch bekräftigt. Nach den Flitterwochen von Emmi und Ali scheint nun plötzlich der Spuk der Feindseligkeit ihrer Umgebung vorbei. Nachdem bei Ali und Emmi nun endlich ein normaler Ehealltag möglich scheint, müssen die beiden nun die Schwierigkeiten innerhalb wahrnehmen: Emmi ist eine herzensgute, aber dennoch mit Vorurteilen behaftete Ehe- Frau , die nicht aus ihren kleinbürgerlichen typisch deutschen Denkmustern aussteigen kann, in denen kein Platz ist für die Welt, aus der Ali kommt. In dieser Situation frischt Ali wieder die Beziehung zu seiner früheren Gefährtin, der Kellnerin Barbara, auf, die ihm dennoch nur ein sexuelles Abenteuer zu sein scheint, ohne die Geborgenheit, die Ali bei Emmi fand. Der Ausgang der Geschichte bleibt offen. Fassbinder hatte mit diesem kunstvoll- kunstlosen Film einer seiner Sternstunden. Fassbinder erzählt eine Geschichte von zwei Menschen, die weder heldenhaft noch tragisch sind. Es ist eine Liebesgeschichte, die Menschen mit ihren sexuellen Wünschen fernab genormter Schönheitsideale. Damit ist besonders die sechzigjährige Emmi angesprochen. Die sexuellen Bedürfnisse von älteren Menschen ist ein Tabu, das Fassbinder unverblümt aufgriff und in sympatischer Offenheit schilderte. Emmi und Ali suchen nach Geborgenheit, die sie nicht immer finden, da aber dann unerwartet sich wieder zu finden scheint, wenn die beiden nocheinmal zu dem selben Tango tanzen. So gehen durch eine vorurteilsbeladene Umwelt, die einen das Leben unmöglich zu machen scheint und schließlich auch in ihrer Beziehung einzugreifen scheint. So irrt Ali von seiner Frau weg durch die Stadt hin zu der Kneipe der sicherlich auch nicht den Vorstellungen genormter kleinbürgerlich- deutschen Lebensweisen entsprechenden Kellnerin Barbara, die ihm sein geliebtes Cous Cous macht als Symbol seiner Heimat, von der er getrennt ist. Er hat seine Kultur hinter sich gelassen, aber ist mental immer noch nicht in der anderen Kultur angekommen. |
